The Enrollment and Placement Process: Connecting You to the World of Work
The sequence of steps in your enrollment and placement is as follows:
Step 1: Preparation for Enrollment
Preliminary Meeting
- General review of the Programs
- Student eligibility and schedule
- Career interests and goals
- Work experience jobs available from participating employers
Resume Preparation
- If the student is eligible and interested he/she is given a model resume specifically prepared for each major and instructed on how to complete and submit a preliminary resume for enrollment consideration.
- The student is provided with guidance on completing the resume with respect to content, forrnat, appearance and completeness. Several meetings with staff may be necessary before the resume is accepted. The objective is to develop a high quality resume, one which will serve the best interest of the student and be persuasive to the potential employer.
- When accepted, 20 copies are submitted for referral to various prospective employers.
Resume Critiquing Service
- The Career Center offers students the opportunity to have their resumes reviewed by Career Center staff. This service is open to all students not participating in The Center’s formal programs (Professional Recruiting or Internship Programs). Students are required to follow sample resumes recommended by The Career Center. Only one critique is provided.
Personal Assessment
- An assessment is also made of the student's capabilities, aspirations, interests, background, previous work experience, employment potential and possible need for further preparation.
Formal Enrollment:
- is arranged if student is eligible, agrees to enroll, submits all required material and information, and a suitable work experience program is feasible.
A Record File:
- is established for each student in which every subsequent action, contact, and information is maintained for a complete record.
Matching the Student with the Job:
- a very important step in the process requires placing "the right student in the right job" which involves such considerations as - the student's record, previous experience, interests, career goals, personal characteristics, schedule, transportation, etc. With respect to the job, it involves factors such as type of firm, nature of the business, job specifications, perfomance requirements, work place atmosphere, commitment, supervision, training, work schedule, pay location, etc.
