The Enrollment and Placement Process (cont.)

Step 4: Monitoring and Evaluating Learning and Performance

Progress Reports
  • After a successful employment arrangement is made and before starting work, the student discusses with the Director or Coordinator the work responsibilities of the student and the employer, and the content of a Progress Report which must be submitted every 3 weeks to The Career Center Office.

Students sometimes obtain their own jobs and want to include them in the Co-op Ed Program to obtain its benefits. In such instances theemployer and the student must comply with all Program requirements.

Site Visits

  • On-site visits are arranged for each placement. The Director schedules these visits to monitor student performance and the employer's adherence to the various responsibilities committed to under the Program. A full report of the findings is included in the student's and employer's files.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • The work placement is constantly monitored and evaluated from various sources including the student's Progress Reports (submitted every 3 weeks), the site visits and the reports submitted to The Career Center Office by the employer during the work experience period.
  • Summary evaluations are completed by both the student and employer upon completion of the work experience.
  • The student and the employer are required to report immediately any problems or difficulties which arise during the work experience to the Director or Coordinator so that they can be resolved as quickly as possible.

Number of Job Placements

  • A student may have several job placements when eligible and available during the undergraduate and graduate periods.
  • Such placements may be in the parallel model (part-time) while school is in session or in the alternating model (full-time) during summer and intersession periods.
  • Students are strongly urged to participate in at least 3 job placements during their undergraduate academic careers.
