To ensure your success in your first year in college and throughout your college years, here are some important suggestions to consider and act upon:
- Make connections with faculty, staff, and peers; form groups that support your college goals;
- Understand why you are in college;
- Develop sound study skills that will enable you to develop intellectual flexibility and creativity;
- Integrate writing into your learning experience. Keep a journal;
- Identify resources on campus that will help you succeed;
- Find an advisor or counselor who will mentor you throughout college;
- Be realistic and acquire a balanced approach to work, school, and personal life.
And most importantly,
- Start to explore your interests, values, and skills as a preliminary stage of your career development
So, whether you’re coming to college to increase your knowledge, acquire a degree, develop self-awareness, or simply get a better job, college will expand your career options and help you achieve your career goals.
