Freshman Year: Career Awareness
Goal:
- To understand the career planning process.
Objectives:
- To define the career development process.
- To identify steps in the process.
- To connect steps to a career plan.
- To explore interests, abilities, values, and skills.
Activity Plan:
- Preliminary assessment exercises to identify interests, aptitudes, values, personality type.
- Explore career options that reflect who you are.
- Explore academic disciplines that would provide a foundation for career development.
- Speak to academic and career advisors.
- Attend resume writing workshops.
Outcomes:
- Ability to create a chart/personal profile of interests, aptitudes, values, and type.
- Ability to articulate an initial career goal.
- Submission of a resume which successfully reflects an initial career plan.

Sophomore Year: Choosing a Major
Goal:
- To be able to connnect interests, values, skills to career options and to a choice of major.
Objectives:
- To clarify interests, abilities, and skills.
- To assess personality characteristics ("type")
- To connect interests, values, and skills to careers.
Activity Plan:
- Meet with Career Counselor for career assessment.
- Review and revise personal profile chart.
- Develop a career vision statement and career goal.
- Talk to advisors and faculty about skills and areas of expertise.
- Revise resume.
- Continue to attend Career Fairs, Employer Information Sessions, etc.
- Talk to Career Center about an internship.
Outcomes:
- Successfully articulate the career planning process and how and why we choose a career.
- Ability to set career goals
- Ability to identify functional skills, interests, values, and motivators.
- Create a resume that effectively captures the personal profile.
- Identify a major.
- Be prepared for intership placement.

Junior Year: Experiential Learning
Goal:
- To develop career related skills and experience through internships.
Objectives:
- To develop functional skills.
- To learn about work-place culture.
- To understand basic job search strategies.
- To learn time management.
Activity Plan:
- Visit Career Center to explore internships in chosen major.
- Complete internship enrollment.
- Become familiar with interviews; attend Interview Basics Workshop.
- Learn about volunteer, community service and study abroad opportunities.
- Update resume and revise career plan.
Outcomes:
- Completion of at least one internship by the end of the junior year (two are strongly urged).
- Development of critical career-related and functional skills.
- Competency in basic job search.
- Development of professional attitude, image, and confidence.
- Clarification of career needs.

Senior Year: Transitioning Strategies
Goal:
- To successfully transition into the professional world of work or advanced studies.
Objectives:
- To develop a strategy plan for transition.
- To "master" skills in job search, interviewing, and decision making.
- To intensify networking efforts.
- To continue to develop skills through internships and other experiences.
- To develop and education plan.
Activity Plan:
- Attend Career Center Professional Development Workshops.
- Attend internal and external Career Fairs.
- Enroll in Career Center's Professional Recruitment Program.
- Participate in Information interviews, rpofessional organization meetings, etc.
- Reassess skills, experience, and goals.
- Revise/update Career Plan.
- Speak with Career Center Counselors.
- Develop a portfolio of awards, recommendations, projects, etc.
- Research graduate schools, etc.
Outcomes:
- Proficiency in job search strategies.
- Ability to articulate clearly a specific career path and jobs relevant to career path.
- Development of "career leadership" traits.
- Ability to successfully manage career.
